B.S.L.
(Breed Specific legislation )
What would you do if your local county passed a law and told you that you can not own your
loving family pet because of its breed? Think about it, that living in America, the "Land of the
Free" you can not own your own pet of choice? That you would be fined, or put in jail because of
your pet who has never did anything but give you all of their love? Sounds like this would never
be true, doesn't it? Well, think again. In many states including Florida, some counties have
already enforced this law known as Breed Specific legislation (BSL) If you think only pit bull
owners need to be concerned about breed specific legislation ("BSL"), the following list should
shatter your illusions: American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire
Bull Terrier, Boxer, Saint Bernard, Great Pyrenees, Dogo Argentino, German Shepherd, Akita,
Husky, Wolf hybrids, Bull Mastiff, Chow Chow, Dalmation, Doberman Pinscher, Dogue de
Bordeaux, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler are all breeds affected by BSL.
Pit Bulls are only used for fighting dogs......right?
This is simply not true, pit bulls are used for many great causes ranging from:
Therapy such as Leo, a former Michael Vick pit bull that works at his local hospital
Show many with Champion titles with United Kennel Club  and American Bully Kennel Club
Service  Sergeant Stubby, a Pit Bull, was a World War II hero who saved several soldiers and
captured a German spy.
Movie Stars a couple of movies pit bulls were a part of are Little Rascals, Garfield, Cheaper by
the Dozen
Law enforcement Popsicle helped the feds seize 3,075 pounds of cocaine from a
pineapple-laden truck at the Mexican border-the biggest drug bust ever at the Hidalgo, Texas,
port of entry.
Search-and-Rescue They play an important role in their community by locating missing people
in conjunction with the local Sheriff.
This list can go on and on of ways pit bulls help serve our country.
The American Temperament Test Society conducts tests every year on
thousands of dogs to determine the soundness of their temperament.  The
American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier routinely
and consistently rank in the average range, and well above many "popular"
breeds such as the beagle, collie, doberman pincher, cocker spaniel and
great dane.   Alfons Estelt of the American Temperament Test Society, Inc.,
stated the following with respect to pit bulls: "The American Pit Bull Terriers
participating in our temperament evaluation have thus far shown a passing
rate of 95%. The other 121 breeds of dogs in our tests showed the average
passing rate of 77%
Could you pick a pit bull out in a line up?
This would be hard for many people to do considering that the physical traits
and characteristics shared by "pit bulls" are also shared by approximately
twenty-five (25) other breeds. Among the many problems associated with
breed specific legislation and its enforcement against pit bulls are the issues
associated with identification.  "Pit bull" is not a breed, but rather a generic
term used to describe the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire
Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
